WAINUI-AHIPARA
The president, Mrs. Shirley Masters, presided over a small attendance at this month’s meeting of the Wainni-Ahipara Institute, held at Mrs. Stuart Masters’, on Thursday last. The roll call, “childhood incidents," brought forth some quaint sayings of children. Two competitions were won by Miss Zita Berghan and Mrs. Boyd, a visitor. The monthly competition, a useful apron, was won by Mrs. Stuart Masters, with Miss Audrey Masters second. An interesting letter from the Big Sister Institute, Matakohe, was read by the president and some useful information was gained from it. Afternoon tea brought the pleasant afternoon to a close, the hostesses being Mesdames J. N. Berghan and G. llorsford, and Miss Audrey Masters.
MANGONUI Mrs. W. A. Wratliall presided over a good attendance at the Mangonui Institute meeting last Thursday, Mesdames Stanley Harris and Nilsson being the hostesses for the afternoon. The roll call “Interesting items from the Press”, brought forth some very instructive and humourous extracts. The motto for the month was “Turn your face to the sun and the shadows will fall behind”. The competition for the month, a pair of moccasins, brought some very good work, and some very fine thrift articles were on view. Good business was done at the trading table, the profits being donated to the Northland Federation fund. Mrs. Raynor gave an interesting demonstration of poker work. At the July meeting Mrs. W. A. Wratba.ll showed the members how a quilled cushion was made.
