At Mangonui
The Main Highway Board arrived at Mangonui on Wednesday evening and there met the Mangonui and distiict Civic League, who brought under the Board’s notice the necessity of scheduling
the Mangonui to Awanui via Taipa road as a highway, and also the improvement of the Mangonui to Stoney Creek, and Mangonui to Oruru highway by the removal of sharp bendß, and general straightening of the road, as had been surveyed, this shortening the distance from the Oruru factory to the wharf by 81 chains, the department’s estimate of the cost being £IO,OOO. Advantage was taken of the presence of Mr, McKenzie to solicit his further support in expediting the departmental preliminaries in connection with the new wharf to be erected at Mangonui. In replying the chairman said that he would see that no delay was caused in connection with the wharf. Regarding the straightening of the road from Oruru to Mangonui, while they realised it was an important work, he would like to know what the County Council had to say about it. So far as he knew no application had been received from the Council. The Board had received requests from the Council that day and no mention was made of ■ this road. “I would, however, suggest that you ask your Council to place it on their requisition list, if in their opinion it is as essential as you have represented it to be. The president of the League thanked the Board for the favourable manner in which they had received the deputation.
