COMING EVENTS
A. meeting of those interested in the formation of an Amateur Dramatic Society will be held in the Parish hall, Kaitaia, on Tuesday 11th December at 8 p.m. The need for such a society has long been felt in Kaitaia, and as there are now a number of residents in the locality who have had experience in amateur dramatics, these will be in a position to lead the society and so help along the younger members. All interested are invited to attend the initial meeting. * * * * Mr. W. Grounds to Speak at Kaitaia x Mr. W. Grounds, member of the Dairy Board, will address a public meeting in the A. & P. hall on Friday December 7 at 1.30 pm. Owing to the position of the da ry industry, and the Government's unpopular proposals for reorganisation, Mr. Grounds, who is one of the leaders of the industry, and has full knowledge of all its phases, should lie listened to by all the dairy farmers of the district, as there is no doubt that this is a most critical time for the dairy farmers. An invitation is extended by the organisers to the business men of the community to be present at the meeting as ou the prosperity of the farmers depends the prosperity of the whole country. COMING SALES An auction sale of sundries will be conducted at the Mart, Kaitaia, on Saturday the Bth inst. Ou the same day, the property of the late Mr. Luka Covich at Kaingaroa, will be offered. SOCIAL EVENTS The Awanui cricket club’s dance held on Tuesday evening turned out to be one of the most successful dances held in Awanui for some time. The floor arrangements were in the hands of Mr. H. Switzer, and extras were supplied by Mr. C. Harrison. The competition for the turkey was won by Mr. G. Tyler, while Mrs. Short won the fowl. A box of chocolates competed for went to Sweetwater. The dainty supper dispensed during an interval between the dances, by the lady supporters of the club, did much to add to the enjoyment of the evening. * * * * Just as cricket is now all the go, so did the Kaitaia Cricket Club’s flannel dance, in the A. and P. Hall last Thursday night, go with tremendous success, it being exceedingly well patronised. Mr. T. B. Matthews arranged a well varied programme of dances, for which the music was supplied by the Ritz Orchestra, with extras by Misses S. Wood, N. Beazley and B. Wagener, and Mr. C. Harrison. After the “inner man” had been fortified with delicious and dainty comestibles by the cricketers, dancing was again resumed. **. * * The Kaitaia Football club’s annual dance, held in the A. and P. Hall last night, Thursday, proved most successful both financially and socially. Mr. W. Flinn controlled a varied programme and extras were played by Misses S. Wood, N. Baazley and D. Flinn. Two Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Miss E. White and Mr. T. Satterthwaite, and Miss Hode and Mr. J. Ryan. A competition, for a prize donated by Mr. D. McIntosh, was won by Mr. F. Lamb. Supper was served by the footballers of the club and lady helpers.
