Hospital Patients moved to Kaitaia

Last Saturday the patients and staff of the County Hospital were shifted from Mangonui to their new quarters at Kaitaia. Private cars brought the patients through, and five lorries were used to bring the furniture, bedding and equipment, these vehicles all being provided free by the owners. The transfer was effected without a hitch, it being fortunate that there were only four patients in the hospital at the time of removal.

All the smaller buildings from Mangonui have now been removed and re-erec-ted at Kaitaia. The main building is all that is left at Mangonui, and part of this has been pulled down and shipped to Kaitaia. The balance of the building will probably come through next week and the work of re-erecting should be completed by the end of next month, May. The buildings have come down remarkably well, there being little breakage and most of the timber is sound. The contractor, Mr. A. Y. Provan of Whangarei, and his men, are carrying out a difficult job expeditiously and efficiently. The water pipe line from Okahau Falls to the hospital will probably be completed next week. The greater part of the work of laying the pipes has been carried out by voluntary labour, and all the cartage of the pipes to the site has hern free of cost to the Board.
