Pig and Bobby Calf Trade
When interviewed by a press representative regarding his company’s operations, Mr. W. A. Phillips, chairman of directors of the N.Z. Co-op. Pig Marketing Association, said that the Association’s turnover in pigs had already exceeded that for the whole of last season, and with some six weeks remaining of the present financial year, it was expected that they would handle approximately 100,000 pigs. In this connection it was interesting to note that the improved position of the Association’s marketing outlets had enabled them to increase the advance payments to suppliers to the end of February on the 62,000 pigs handled at that date, by more than £IO,OOO in excess of the total paid out last year on the 80,000 pigs handled.
When asked about the Association’s prospects for a successful season, Mr. Phillips stated that whilst it was yet too early to give any definite indication regarding its final returns to sup-
pliers, he could say that the position to the present was entirely satisfactory. An enquiry as to whether his Association intended to continue its operations in bobby calves this season elicited the reply that all arrangements had been made to not only cover the districts in which collection was carried out last year, but their service would be extended to the Manawatu and North Taranaki districts as well.
