Final Wool Sale for Season
The final wool sale for the season held at Wellington on Monday was in most respects a disappointing anti climax. In conformity with the trend of the market in recent weeks, prices were on a definitely lower basis I ban those at the fourth Wellington sale on March 19, and were the lowest of the season. Passings were unusually heavy, buyers’ limits in many cases being well below growers’ reserves, and not infrequently short of brokers’ valuations. Of the total catalogue of about 1500 bales, it is reliably estimated that barely 65 percent was sold. Estimating Monday’s gross realisation on a very conservative basis it can be said that the total for the five Wellington sales of the 1933-34 season will be very nearly £2,000,000 as compared with £702,295 for the five sales of last season. The Gisborne butter export has doubled during the past five years, and for the six months of the present season ended March 31 the exports totalled 66,529 boxes, compared with 60,090 boxes during the corresponding six months of last year.
