In and About Kaitaia
It is reported that early potato crops in the Kuiuiauinau district are looking well. * * * * Mr. P. Yendcll of Kaitaia is conducting a competition, t' e proceeds from which ure to assist in defraying the travelling expenses of the Senior reps, to VVhangarei. * * * * !Mr. Sonny Watts was the successful winner in the competition for ilia 1 nun Cover made by Mr. C. V\ liite iekl. Jhe number of peas in the bottle was 732 and Mr. Watts had the right number. * * * * At the Anglican Ladies’ Card evening held last Thursday evening, Mrs. F. Puckey and Mrs. Lunn were the leading players, and Miss Thornell and Mr. Morpeth gained the consolation awards. ’1 he competition was won by Mr. E Buckley. The prizes were given by Mr. Llorsley. * * * * Owing to the flooded state of the roads Mr. J. W. Jones, Bay Farmers’ Union President, was unable to arrive at Kaitaia last Monday and so the meeting of the combined Union Branches had to he postponed. Mr. Jones came through at the middle of the week and a meeting was held at Awanui on Thursday evening. Tonight (Friday) a meeting will bo held at Fairborn and to-morrow (Saturday) evening, a meeting will bo held in Foster’s Booms, Kaitaia. * # * * The usual fortnightly Church Dance was held in the Parish Hall, Kaitaia, last Tuesday evening, tliero being a,fair attendance. Mr. T. Salvair handled the programme and the Ritz Orchestra supplied the music, with extras by Miss F. Parker and Mr. A. Logan. After supper, which was up to the ÜBual high Church Dance standard, had been served, dancing continued till midnight.
