FAIRBURN BRANCH.
Mrs. Lupton presided over a full attendance of members at the July meeting of the Fairburn Women’s Institute, Visitors being present from Te Puhi and the Peria Maori Women’s Institute. An excellent paper on dahlia culture prepared by Mr. E. M. Cave, was read by the President. A very interesting demonstration of wool spinning was given by Mr. Hancox, after which Mrs. Hancox demonstrated the making of hooked wool rugs, both of which were very much appreciated by all present. The Roll Call was “A cure for the blues.” The winners of the competitions are as follows Victorian Posy—Mrs. A. Christensen first, Mrs. Dangen second. Something new from something old— Daintiest article—M*s. A. Christensen first. Most useful—Mrs. Dangen first, Mrs. Cave second. Junior Class: Victorian Posy—Miss D. Thomas first, Miss Rogers second. Something new from something old—Miss Rogers first, Miss D. Thomas Becond. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames McKinnon, Atkinson and Cave.
