MEETING OF THE MANGONUI RUGBY UNION
A meeting of the management committee of the Mangonui Rugby Union was held on Monday evening, when all clubs were represented, the President, Mr. J. T. Clark, being in the chair. After hearing lengthy evidence, it was evident to delegates that the referee had mistaken the name of the Whangape Junior he had ordered off the field, the offending player being Ned Leaf and not Brown Murray who was reported. In view of this the penalty inflicted on Brown Murray was lifted and the same penalty imposed on Ned Leaf. Owing to the peculiar circumstances the action of the Whangape Club in playing Murray but standing down Leaf was allowed. A report on the meeting with the North Auckland Union Executive, regarding the Oruru Club, was given by the President, who eulogised the able manner in which the Secretary, Mr. E. R. Bird, had handled the situation on behalf of the Mangonui Union. After hearing the report the delegates decided to place on record their appreciation of the manner in which the President, Secretary and members of the delegation had dealt with the question of the Oruru Club before the North Auckland Executive. The actions of the Committee were confirmed and Mr. J. Sou ter was accorded a vote of thanks for transporting the delegation. As the protest entered by the Manukau Juniors was not in order it could not be discussed as such, but its contents were noted, and it being sustained that Pamapuria had knowingly played a senior player, thus flouting the Union, the match was given to Manukau. The President announced that replacement of players was in order, providing that the referee and the opposing cap. tains agree to such a course prior to the commencement of play. It is anticipated that the first senior rep. match of the season will take place on Saturday June 24th at 2.30 p.m., when Whangaroa will be playing Mangonui on the latter's home ground. As a curtain raiser an endeavour is to be made to arrange a school match, North of County versus South of County. It was decided to play two rounds in the Third Grade competition and all matches played prior to June 10th not to be counted in the competition. The Committee in control of the Sevenaside tournament were congratulated on
the able manner in which the fixture was carried out.
