March 10—Mr. Taaffe brought in two striped marlin, 224 and 2741 b ; Mr. Ellis brought in a striped marlin weighing 3781 b. This constitutes a new record for a striped marlin caught from Whangaroa this season, the previous record being a fish of 3541 b, also caught by Mr. Ellis. March 13—Mr. Watson brought in a mako shark weighing 1271 b. March 14—Mr. Watson, a mako of 1971 b. March 16 —Mr. Ellis brought in three striped marlin, 240, 180 and 245 lb ; Mr. Taaffe brought in a striped marlin weighing 1971 b and a mako of 451 b. March 17—Mr. Taaffe brought in a striped marlin of 3001 b. March 18—Mr. S. Ellis brought in four striped marlin, 266, 338, 284 and 2341 b, and a mako shark of 1651 b. The total weight of Mr. Ellis’ catch for the day was 12871 b—unquestionably a record. It is also believed that never before in New Zealand waters has one angler brought in five big gamefisih on the same day. Although very few anglers are operating from Whangaroa this season, an astonishing number of fish have been brought in, and the total weight caught will be found to compare more than favourably with that shown by any other big gamefishing base. Visit of Guide Commissioner Mrs. Coates, the Guide Commissioner for the Auckland province, visited Kaeo on Tuesday, March 14, when she was entertained by the President of the local Girl Guide Committee. In the afternoon the Commissioner inspected and addressed the Kaeo troop which has been conducted for some time by Miss Matthews. Church of England Archbishop Averill was present in Kaeo on Tuesday evening, March 14, when divine service was held in the Kaeo Anglican Church. The Archbishop addressed a large gathering, his text being “She was filled with good works and alms which she did.” He referred feelingly to the late Mrs. Leslie and the position she had held in the life of the community. The annual Harvest Festival was held on Sunday last, the Rev. Mr. Isherwood conducting the service. There was a fair attendance in spite of the inclement weather, and the church was tastefully decorated with flowers and maize, while a goodly array of products was on show. All the produce, etc., has been sent to the Friends’ House, Takapuna. Fish Canning Factory Mr. King is now directing operations for the Zealandia Packing Company on their property on Sanderson’s Point, Totara North. Water is being piped across the bay from Lane and Son’s supply. There are now seventeen men on the job, and preparations for building the factory should progress apace. Obituary The death occurred in the Kawakawa hospital early on Tuesday morning, March 14th, of Mrs. Hannah

Sarah Bramley, a wellknown resident of Kaeo. Mrs. Bramley was the elder daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Hayes of Kaeo, where she was born on February 28, 1875. She was married on August 17, 1903, to Mr. W. R. Bramley of Kaeo by the Rev. Mr. Grantham. Mrs. Bramley was an *

ardent worker in the Methodist church and an enthusiastic member of the local branch of the W.D.F.U., in both of which organisations she will be sadly missed. She is survived by a husband, three sons and three daughters.
