RELIEF WORK FOR GUMDIGGERS
MEMBER’S REPRESENTATION, A grant was recently made for the planting of lupin seed and marram grass on the west coast near Dargaville, but difficulty was experienced 3 in obtaining abour to carry out the work. The member for the Bay of Islands has repeatedly made representations for a grant for the west coast north of Ahipara and in view of the difficulty in finding labour to spend the grant allotted to the southern district, Captain Rushworth has urged that the money be transferred to this district. Should this be done the labour will be drawn from the unemployed gumdiggers in the north,
