FARMERS’ UNION

KAITAIA RBANCH MEETING. MANY MATTERS DISCUSSED

The usual branch meeting of the Kaitaia branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in Foster’s Rooms on Monday night. There was a fair attendance of members Mr. G. Hodgson occupying the chair.

A welcome was extended tQ a number of new members by the president who stated that all farmers should take a keen interest in the work of their Union. It was decided to protest against the apparent misappropriation of the Unemployment Board’s funds by diverting a sum of £BOO to advertise secondary industries.

A letter from the Social workers’ organisation was received, and stated that the businessmen of Auckland had donated farm requirements in the way of manure, wire, iron, etc. for distribution amongst needy farmers. Those wishing to take advantage of this offer to communicate with the secretary of the local branch.

The secretary was instructed to write to the member for the Bay of Islands and ask that he give the branch a copy of the Minister’s reply to his question re fertilizer prizes. A resolution suggesting that a more simplified system of collecting the benzine tax be adopted was debated aCsome length and the resolution was lost when put to thefmeeting.

Accounts as follows were passed for payment —A. and P. Hall, £3 1 os, Northlander, ios, D. Archibald 3s 4d.

A vote of thanks to the chair brought the meeting to a close.
