TOWN BOARD TO TAKE OVER IF SUBSCRIBERS APPROVE. GENERAL MEETING CALLED. If subscribers agree the Kaitaia Library is to be placed under the control of the town board, Already agreed to by the board, the terms of the proposal were approved by the library committee at a meeting on Saturday night, and it now remains only for the subscribers to give their sanction. A general meeting of subscribers has been called for the evening or Tuesday, November 26, to finaFse the matter. Present at the meeting of the committee on Saturday night were Messrs. Clark (in the chair), Grigg (secretary), Bedggood, Woodall and Wigley. The town clerk advised that the board had agreed to take over the library on the following terms: —The library committee is to hand over all its assets, obtaining any necessary signatures of transfers or assignments at the board’s expense, and is thereafter to be dissolved. Ihe assets include the library building and section at Grigg’s Corner, the furniture and other assets within the building, and the Stanton Bequest fund, the interest from which is set aside for the purchase of books ot an educational nature. The town board is to administer such assets as a public library under the Libraries and Mechanics Institutes Act, and is to take over outside liabilities amounting to £67. It is understood that the board will make provision annually for the raising of funds to purchase books and to maintain the library. Under the Act mentioned above a committee is set up consisting of either members of the board or citizens of the town. It is suggested that the committee shall consist of six members, three from the town board and three from the present committee. On the motion of Mr. Woodalb seconded by Mr. Wigley, the committee approved of the proposal, and decided to call a general meeting ot subscribers for November 26.
