Mr And Mrs E F Matthews Farewelled Awanui Residents' Regret Many residents of Awanui gathered together at the home of Mrs A J Spain last week to bid goodbye to Mr and Mrs E F Matthews of Awanui. There are many regrets at the departure of Mr and Mrs Matthews from this district for having taken such an active part in the social and other work of Awanui their place will be hard to fill and their work in connection with the raising of money to build the Anglican Church at Awanui will long be remembered. At the function last week Rev Ward spoke in glowing terms of the departing guests. Mrs Matthews had filled the position as organist and Mr Matthews as Church Warden for many years. They hadbeen the pillars of the church and he regretted their departure. £)n behalf of the people of Awanui Rev Ward presented Mrs Matthews with a travelling rug and a copper epergne. Mr Matthews was presented with a leather suit case.
Mr E F Matthews briefly responding on behalf of Mrs Matthews thanked the people for the presents. Mr and Mrs Matthews will make their new home at Taupaki near Helensville.
