It will |be remembered that Mr Reed I laid great stress on the question of landing farm phosphates at ! Opua and that these could be treated at the Moerewa Freezing | Works where at little expense the necessary plant could be installed. i It has been known for a long time that oconsiderable coal deposits exist round, about Kawa- ; kawa, and it-woukiseem that as i a result of the. st: he me proposed j by the Hon. Vernon Reed M.L.C. these are on the eve of being de- ! veloped. Recently Mr Barclay, Inspector of Mines-Huntly, arrived in Kawakawa with a view to discussing the terms-of the.Jease as applied for by the local coal prospecting syndicate. He was met by Messrs Leaity. Penny, Bridge and Squire representatives of the syndicate ani of the Kawakawa Chamber of Commerce and after a lengthy discussion an amicable [settlement was made and the syndicate will now apply for a new lease which it is anticipated will be granted.on much more favourable terms than the previous one. \ '
