On Monday evening a birthday party was held in honour of Miss Isabel Hansen, at Mrs Anstis’s residence. A very enjoyable time was spent by the many friends of the guest of honour. Later the company sat down to a wonderfully set table when Miss Hansen blew out the candles and cut the beautiful birthday cake. MrMarwhinney on behalf ot those present, made a short speech and wished Isabel “Many Happy Returns” Mr Arnold Rae responding. The guests then sang “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” and hearty cheers were given for her and Mrs Anstis. After a few more dances and pleasantries, goodnights were said and the party dispersed. Miss Hansen was the recipient of many handsome gifts. The New Fords have Triplex glass (non-shatterable) one-piece windshields.

There was a keen demand for beef at the Kaitaia stock sale yesterday. Fat bullocks made up to jCI 1-8/-. There was a big yarding of cows which met with keen competition, at prices up to £7. An extra prime cow made £lO-5/- and fell to the bid of Mr W R McKenzie.

Presbyterian Church services for Sunday next will be: —11 a.m Mangonui; 2 p.m Fairburn ; 7 p.m Kaitaia. This latter will be a Bible class service and the subject to be dealt with by the Rev G A Naylor, will be “The Friendship of Christ.”
