The Northlanders Lie
Mr, J. fl. Young’s Visit Did Colonel Bell Presid .’. At All Meetings In North When we gave Colonel Bell M.P. a dressing down for his impudence in usurping the position of the Chairman of the Mangonui Hospital Board on the occasion of the visit of the Hon. J. A. Young to Kaitaia, the “Northlander” in its vain endeavour to excuse the conduct of the member for the district, stated that Colonel Belt presided at all the meetings in the North during Mr. Young’s tour. We are in a position to state that this is a deliberate falsehood. Mr J W Jones, Chairman of the Bay of Islands Hospital Board was in Kaitaia yesterday and we asked him this question : “Did your Board meet the Minister for Health on his recent tour of the North ?” Mr Jones replied : “Yes we met the Minister and discussed several matters with him.’’ “Who'presided at that meeting ?” Mr Jones : “I did. There was no suggestion ol anyone elsp presiding.” “Did not Colonel Bell M.P. want to preside ?” Mr Jones : “Certainly not. As a matter of tact he gave way to me in everything, and the Minister addressed himself to me on all matters and the member stood quite on one side.”
