Over Five Inches of Rain The Roads Damaged Bridge Washed Away The North experienced a heavy downpour of rain on Thursday of las. week and not a little damage w, done to the roads in and •round Houhora. The approach to the Houhora wharf was Washed away and although the Northern Coy’s steamer Apanui arrived during the week end with cargo for discharge it was impossible for the owners of the goods to get their conveyances to the wharf to take delivery of their property. Tht nidge close to Leo Gallic’s property was wasneu away and this meant thaCworkmen had to . work ah day on Sundcy 10 replace the bridge in order that the cream lorry could get through or Monday. They stuck to their task under trying conditions and succeeded in. making this road opt n for traffic. 1 “X : ng William of the North,” Mr W H Evans informed a representative, of the Northland Age that the men were deserving of ti.-s greatest praise for the meaner 0 which they stuck .to their task under most trying conditions and made it possible for the produce from Te Kao to be carted to the Apanui Factory It was the heaviest fall of rain experienced for vears. Among other things aboard the Apanui was a parcel of mail which also was held up.
