Punch, Judy and Toby
Two Former Titles Accepted. Judy and The Dog. Her Need of a Snarling Cur There have been many sidestepping exhibitions by Colonel Bell and Margaret Macpherson since they came to the Northland, and they have each put some wonderful bluffs over the people in this isolated portion of New Zealand. Consequently it comes as a pleasant surprise to have Margaret acknowledging in the Colonel’s boosting organ that he is “Punch” and that she is “Judy.” This admission is refreshing if only for its candour. But “Judy” goes further and professes to pine for “the snarling little cur Toby.” People have wondered of late what it was she had on a string. It does a lot of snarling at anyone who happens to have dealings in the Northland Age office. It must have been “Dog Toby.” Therefore “Judy” need not pretend to be pining for “Dog Toby.” She has him and without a doubt he goes to complete a queer trio.
