Duty On Stock Foods.
Temporary Suspension
Urged By Farmers' Union,
The temporary suspension of the duty on imported stock foods was strongly advocated at a meeting of the Morrinsville branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. Mr J E Leeson said that owing to the drought there was a great demand for foodstuffs. There was a duty cf 20 per cent on all auxiliary foods, and he thought it would be a good idea if the Government suspended for six months the collection of duties. He moved a motion on these tines. Mr J B Thomas, in seconding, said that while as a rule he did not advocate interfering with duties under the circumstances he thought it would be an excellent thing for farmers. Several other members spoke on similar lines, general feeling being that the proposal was a most reasonable and necessary one. The motion was carried without dissent.
