“We are looking for the right class of man” said one of the heads of a certain political organisation the other day. Now the public would be pleased to know just what is meant by "the right classof man.” Perhap:. the idea is that the man wanted is one who will do as he is told and ask no embarrassing questions. On the other hand it may be that a suitable candidate wi.t be one who does not care much so long as he gets into Parliament. There are numbers of these placeseekers in the offing just now, but it would be a great tragedy to add to the number of this type already in the House. Politics in New Zealand have degenerated to such a pass that *hey are little better than a joke. In point of fact, anyone who listened to the debate on me Licensing Bill must have been impressed by the lack of ability displayed by a majority o! the members. There were few irdeed, who have any ability in debate and a knowledge of ecorumic argument is sadly lacking. There is a growing need ior men to serve the people but we don’t want anv of the time serving crowd who at; woisc than useless
