THE HAWAAIAN TROUPE

Sequel To St. Saviours Bazaar. , v..- _ Entertainment By Local Talent. The annual St Saviour’s Bazaar which was held on Friday in the Princess Theatre, Kaitaia, proved a great success, the total sum realised being in the vicinity of £55. As a sequel the Hawaaian Troupe which was arranged by Mrs R H Johnson, gave an entertainment, in the evening, which on the whole proved quite good. It will of course be understood that the majority of the young people taking part were making their first appearance before the footlights, and this they all did creditably, and Mrs Johnson is to be congratulated on her production. The most popular item of the evening was the duet rendered by Miss A Johnson and Mr S Matthews. Miss Johnson’s rendering was excellent and she posseses a most pleasing voice. This number was heartily encored. Another pleasing duet was that sang by Misses R and L Matthews. In a Hawaaian item the former proved an ideal Hula maid. Mrs King and Miss Christine Holder also contributed vocal items. Mr G Puckey rendered a whistling solo in good style. The Hawaaian and Chinese costumes worn by the ladies were most effective and the strains of toe ukulele orchestra added greatly to the success of the items Mrs R H Johnson presided at the piano. The following is the programme : “Rendezvous"—Mrs King. “Shine Shine Moon" —the Troupe. “Rolling and Bowling”— S Matthews and Chorus. “Little Girl, little Boy” —Miss A Johnson and Mr. S Matthews. “Oriental Moon”—Mrs King and Chorus. “Under The Deodar”—Miss Holder. Whistling Solo—Mr G Puckey. “Hawaaian Twilight”—M r s King and Chorus. "In Old Manila” —Miss Holder and Chorus. “Dreamy Hawaai”—Troupe. “Hawaaian Blue Bird”—Misses Rosie and Lucy Matthews. “Hawaaian Moonlight”—Mrs King and Miss Johnson. “Honolulu Moon”—Hawaaian Troupe. After the programme was gone through the Vicar, Mr R H Johnson announced the winners of the various competitions as follows : Fugi petticoat—Mr L H Bell. Pink set—Mrs Rutledge. White set —Mrs May. Fugi Set—Mrs S Watts. Mrs Watts however, declined the honour in favour of the next competitor. Dr Torrie and Miss M Masters tied for second place and decided to divide the prize. The correct weight of the cake which was 81bs 2 ozs was guessed by Mrs Morclock. Turkey—Mrs Hounsell Senr.
