SMOKE CONCERT AT FAIRBURN.

What will lung be remembered as the jolliest evening ever held in the Fairburn-Kaiaka Hall took place last Friday, when Mr. Ivan Stanton gave a smoke concert on the occasion of his “Coming of Age,” the success of which was due to Mr Tony Stanton who rendered valuable assistance jn connection with the party. Mr A. G. Buckingham was selected to occupy the chair, and the following toasts were duly honoured: —“The King,” after which all joined in singing “God Save the King.” “ The Guest of the Evening.”—Mr W. Dawson, in proposing this toast, said that he had known Ivan from an infant, and he had led a straight life up to the present, and having reached the early stage of manhe# t, he wished him every success in the future. Mr Ivan Stanton suitably responded. “Tbe Returned Soldier’s.” —Proposed by Mr A. Christensen, responded to by Mr Tony Stanton. “The Civilians.” Proposed by Mr T. Stanton, responded to by Mr W. Metcalfe. “The Farming Community.”—Proposed by Mr A. G. Buckingham, responded to by Mr E. W. Taylor. Other items of interest were:— Vocal quartettes by Messrs Christensen Bros.; songs by Mr W. Metcalfe; humourous recitations, Messrs P. Burke and T. Stanton ; French National Anthem, sung in French, Mr Carl Christensen ; violin selections, Messrs P. Burke and C. Christensen.
Mr Alf. Christensen acted the duties of accompanist. The remainder of the evening was spent in games of “Ping Pong,” tennis and cards.
