The Northland Age. OFFICIAL ORGAN OF THE FARMERS’ UNION. Published Twice a Week. WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY Price Twopence. FRIDAY, JULY 29. POLITICAL ACTION.
For over twenty years some of the delegates to the Dominion Conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union have sought without success to influence the Union throughout the country into taking direct political action with a view to securing legislation which would benefit New Zealand generally. This year the agitation was commenced again, the Kaitaia branch being responsible for the move by a resolution put forward by Mr J C Marsh, and carried and sent forward as a remit tn the Provincial Conference. The latter gathering passed it andnow the Dominion Conference by a unanimous vote has agreed to tne proposal. Therefore we have coming from Kaitaia the foundati in of the Farmers’ Union in the tirst instance and now after strenuous fighting for nearly a quarter of a century we have the Kaitaia Union sending the Union members on a political mission which ought to have far reaching effects in the political life of the country. The Kaitaia Branch is to be congratulated upon the success of its efforts. The farmers to-day are a united family and .they will weild a weight in future that wi ! l command the utmost respect from politicians in the House.
