“Circumstances Alter Cases.”

Hospital Board’s Appreciation. Vote of Thanks Passed. Money for Beautifying Purposes. As was stated in the Northland Age on Wednesday, the nett receipts in connection with the performance given in the A & P Hall on Friday evening last totalled £3O. This fact was reported to the Hospital Board at the meeting held on Wednesday, by Mr W H Atkins. The Chairman, Mr T S Houston in moving a hearty vote of thanks to the “Circumstances Alter Cases,” Company and to all those who assisted, them including the Press and business people, said it was pleasing to note the support given the entertainmiyit by the public. He could sot remember having seen such a large audience in the hall. The receipts together with the Government subsidy would give a lotal of £6O towards the ..laying out of the grounds in the direction of planting of shrubs and beautifying the place. This, as was generally known was going to be one of their first functions to make the Kaitaia Hospital, an ideal hospital. With reference to the performance given by the Amateur Theatricals it was a most creditable performance. The results were a good omen lor the future. Mr Mi chi e said that one notable feature of the ptrformanc# was the fact that nearly all those who took part in the performance were not old residents in the d strict, and were people who were only temporarily resident heve, and therefore the Board should all the more appreciate the splendid achievement they had accomplished. The motion was seconded by ’Mr Kitchen. Mr Geo Cosson said he appreciated the work done and the free advertising given the function by the Press. Mr Mclntosh said he had never known of a society putting on a performance where the ratio of expenses had been so low as they had been in connection with tins function. He asked that the advertising charges made by each of the local newspapers amounting to 12/- in each instance be donated. «; The Editor of the “Age” said it was quite a small matter and subject to his contemporary who was about agreeing, he was prepared to accede to this request. He mentioned, however, that a large amount of free advertising had been given the company since they commenced rehearsing for the performance. Mr Mclntosh, continuing, said that members hau had expedience in the past ot functions held in aid of charitable and for other purposes, and the expenses had been’ between 50 and 75 per cent. It was most gratifying to notice the splendid assistance given this performance by the Press and the business people generally, and others. The motion was carried unanimously.
