The Northland Age. OFFICIAL ORGAN OF THE FARMERS’ UNION. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27,1927 DAIRY CONTROL
The case for the Control of New Zeands dairy produce by the farmers was' ell slated by Mr W G mud., Chairman [the Contrcl Board bst wrek. It was ot necessary tot Mr (.rounds io tell us tat the Board's po.icy was the only one ossible if (he best interests of the iarn’ng community were to be served. Ihc ibvious thing to do was to name tbe trices of butter, just as the price 01 any ithcr commodity is named bv the Vendor, Those who listened to Mr (.rounds must lave been impressed b> to - logical reason, ng behind his remarks. They a'so must lave felt that the only reason there Las iec-i so much ink spilt over he naming of the prices ol butler is hat certain elements which are more or ess parasitical so far as tnc dairy indusry ii concerned, felt that the policy of tne 3oard meant the dipping ot their Wings. In other words they foresaw that carried into effect the Board’s policy would reduce many of the benefits distributors had previously enjoyed and that the gain to the producer and consumer Would be increased as a consequence. That there has been too much political interference with the Board is apparent but the campaign commenced by vested Interests has given Mr. Grouuus mi oppor. tuuity of dealing a blow to those inteicsts that will be lasting. The eutnusustic re. ceptioo accorded the Chairman of the Board on Wednesday evening was an el. cqnenl testimony to his honesty of pur. pose and expression of confidence in his ability to fight the case for the producers.
