A pleasant-function was held at Peria on Thursday last in honour of Mr. and Mrs. E. Gilbert and family, who, after a residence at Oruru of seven years, are leaving for Tauranga, Mr. Gilbert having been appointed manager of the Tauranga Dairy Co. Thei ■ was a large attendance of residents, including many from outside districts, Mr. J. W. Hoskin chairman of the Oruru-Fairburn Dairy Co., presiding, Rererence was made by the chairman to the high esteem in which the guests were held, and the regret which was felt at their departure. Complimentary speeches were also made by Messrs W. A. Wilton, C. S. Ptickey, John Garton, J. M. Daw-on, R. Green, A. Stewart and Henry King, after which Mr. Hoskin presented Mr. Gilbert with a well equipped dressing case on behalf of the company and Mr. W. A. Wilton presented Mrs. Gilbert with a handsome tortoise shell dressing table set on behalf of the board of directors and secretary.

In responding, Mr. Gilbert thanked his friends for their expression of goodwill, and also for the gifts made to Mrs. Gilbert and himself. He was returning to Tauranga as manager of the factory in which he started eighteen years ago.

During the evening an enjoyable musical programme was gone through, the following contributing -Miss D. K. Moore, Miss Christensen, Miss Marjorie Holder, Miss M. Watridge, Miss Garton, Mrs. A. F. Garton, Mrs. Mason, Mrs J. Garton, Mrs. J. Green, Messrs. T. H. Kenny, L. Pettit, John Garton and Christensen’s Orchestra. The function was a fine tribute to the popularity of the guests of the evening, who carry with tliem the best of wishes for their future happiness.
