PROHIBITION CONCERTS.

(Contributed). Something unusual in the way of Prohibition meetings have been held in the North by the N. Z. Alliance organiser, Mr. Burnett. Assisted by his wife and Mr. S. James, of Whangarei, Mr. Burnett has presented entertainments in Kaitaia and surrounding districts. Each programme was concluded with a most laughable humourous sketch and this was preceded by a 20 minutes address from the organizer who deals with the various aspects of Prohibition giving many reasons why he considered his job worth while. Mr. Burnett told the people that he was more

than proud to belong to an organisation which stood for the uplift of humanity and the creation of better conditions, and for the destruction of the most damnable curse to mankind the world has ever known. The speaker concluded with anappealto the young men to “cut out the boose” if they wished to become all that a “real man” should be because the trade was robbing New Zealand today of many hundreds of our good chaps by killing all those fine qualities which stood for all that was best and decent a»d clean in man.

At Fairburns the party received a most enthusiastic reception and the performers were recalled again and again. Mr. Burnett performed no less than twelve items in addition to the usual address, while Mrs. Burnett and Mr James were also in great demand for their musical contributions. Even after the singing of God Save The King the audience was loth to leave. Literature dealing with some of the most important questions concerning Prohibition, is is being distributed at each meeting.
