Practical Men Voice Highest Opinion of Fertility of This District and Predict Great Future.
As it is only natural that the people of this district should speak in high terms of its fertility and possibilities, the opinions of outside men, possessing practical experience, is of great value. Here are some extracts from statements made by such men : After spending some weeks in your district I am impressed with its fertility and possibilities. At the same time I wish to emphasise the need for better farming methods to. secure a full return from the land. Another farmer from the Waikato told an "Age” reporter that he considered the district ideal for dairying. With more population on the land and up-to-date methods it could be made one of the best in the Dominion, A third visitor from Taranaki declared: I have come to the conclusion since I came here, after studying yield and prices, that a man with small capital can do better in the North than in Taranaki. Another farmer’s opinion is that if the capacity and quality of the land were properly mad* known the sons of Taranaki and Waikato farmers who are looking out for country, on account of th* high price of land in their own home districts, there would be a large number that would settle here and their presence would lead to the adoption of more profitable methods of working the land generally. Says one of the best known farmers in the Wairarapa: After six weeks in the North I unhesitatingly give the opinion that the district offers splendid opportunities for success to the dairy farmer, and I believe that once the price of land and prevailing conditions are known a large number of new settlers will gladly *hiake their way here. Travelling round, of course, one hears of the local troubles, but every district has it's own peculiar troubles. There is nothing wrong with the North.
