DESCENDANT OF BURNS.
Another link with Robert Burns, the Scottish poet, has been broken by the death of Mr. George William Pyrke, of ufnell Park, London. Mr. Pyrke has subtantiated his claim to be Burns’ great grandson. Known as “Sammy” Pyrke, he was 83 years of age and an old age pensioner. A cheery old coppersmith by trade he had worked for many years making teaurns, but he ceased his labours some time ago. His mother was Anne Burns, the only daughter of Robert Burns jun., the poet.s eldest son, who is known to have been married in London. Anne Burns in the registry of St. James’, Cierkenwell, where she was born in 1819. “My mother whom f remember well,” said Mr. Pyrke “was the very image of Burns himself with his Hushing dark eyes and his jet black hair. She used to sing nearly all her grandfather’s songs.”
