ESSAY COMPETITION. In order to encourage latent talent and provide a suitable home lesson, the directors of the “Age” are offering a first prize of one guinea and second prize of 10/6 for best essay written by any pupil of primary schools in the Bay of Islands Electoral District on ‘‘The advantage that would acerue to the Northland by the construction of a railway line and the opening of the railway service from Okaihau toAwanui” Essays, which must be signed by the pupil, will be received up till Thursday, April 30th, and will be published in the “Age” in the order in which they are received. After all essays have been published the public will be asked to select the winners by ballot. All essays to be addressed, The Editor, “Northland Age,” Box I, Kaitaia.
