BOWLING NOTES

(By Kitty). Fortune again favoured us ou Saturday the day being fine although a cross wind made the play a bit tricky. The green was very fast after the dry spell, less expienced players finding it hard to keep out of the ditch. The singles championship was advanced another stage, two matches being played with the following results : Mitchell 27, Puckey 9.

Bidmead 22, Rickard 14. The first game as the scores indicate was very uneven, Mitchell having the lead all the way. The other match was a close one up to the 14th head when tl e scores were 15—14 in Bidmead’s favour. After that, however, Rickards play went off and he failed to score. Two more games remain to be pi a) cd and will be got off this week allowing 1 e second round to be commenced next Saturday. This round should proviie some close contests.

Other results during the week end were:—Fryer, Wilkonson, Muon, McMullen, 23. Werner, Whitburn, Rickard, Hidmead, 19. Mitchell and Puckey replaced Bidmead and Rickard respectively t(al( way through to allow the latter to play their single. Bowman, Crisp, Heron, 28. Rule, Dunn, Mclntosh, 20.

Subrilzkv, Mitchell, 33. Heron and Bi dmead, 19.

Crisp, Pickard, 19. Swilza, Mclntosh, 18. In this game Rule plave I 2 bowls for each side.

During Ihe afternoon tea adjournment Mr. Chas McKinnon presented the Silver Ferns 10 the winners of the Pairs Tournament Messrs. Mclntosh aid Mitchell, The ferns are now open for competition any Iwo members having the right to challenge the holders.

Results of play on the 14th u't were:— Single matches, Farrimond 21, Heron 12, Mclntosh 26, Munn 11.

Heron started off with a flourish and had Farrimond hopping, but he was unable to sustain the effort, finally going down by a large majority. Mclntosh defeated Munn having a good lead all way.
