KAURI GUM RESERVE.

GUM, TIMBER AND OIL. The Kauri Gum, Oils and Timber Ltd., which holds a forty-two year Government lease of 3,000 acres of picked kauri gum reserve at Waiharara has just completed 86 chains of draining from the area to the tidal waters of the Rangaunui Bay, thus allowing this rich gum and timber land to be worked. A big contract has been placed for the supply of swamp timber and several thousand of gallons of oil have already been retorted. This enterprising company propose establishing paint and varnish works to obviate the export of kauri gum. Gum diggers are advised that a number of sections are now available for digging.
