MR. SAVAGE'S WAIHARARA MEETING.

(To the Editor) SIR,— In the AGE of March 3rd is a letter under the heading, “ i'he Mammonite and the Socialist,” and signed James Henry. Now, Mr Henry states that Mr Savage denied that Mr Holland ever stated that the present member lor the Bay of Islands received the Labour vote. Mr Savage never denied anything of the kind ; it is evidently Mr Henry who lias suffered a lapse of memory, or else he is a past master at side stepping the question at issue. So, to refresh Mr Henry’s memory I shall here state facts that happ> tied at Mr Savage's meeting, and which 1 can substantiate with sixty signatures ol the audience at the above mentioned meeting. Questioned by Mr W arner, “ Did the Labour Party support the present Member for the Bay of Islands at the last election, if not, why did they not run a candidate of their own ? Mr Savage replied: The Labour Party did not have any organisation in this electorate at last election. Mr Henry interjected, “Mr Holland has stated they did.” Mr Savage replied: “ I shall lorfeit £2O to any charitable institution you care to mention (audience: “ Kaitaia Hospital Fund ") if you can prove that Mr Holland has evt r stated that the Labour Party supported the present member for the Bay of Islands at the last election.

If Mr Henry thinks that by juggling with words he can make Labour Vote into Labour Party then he is very much mistaken. I am not interested in Mr Henry’s conscientious concern to be accurate ; this has been gauged by the public on occasions too numerous to mention here, and found to be inaccurate. But I am interested in the £2O for the Hospital Fund, so please prove, Mr Henry, that Mr Holland has staled that the Labour Party supported the present member.lor ihe Bay of Islands at the last election. When you do prove it the residents ot Waiharara shall demand from Mr Savag • his £2O. I am, etc., Jim Steed, Chairman of Air Savage’s meeting. Waiharara, 12/3/24 Auckland papers please copy.
