FAIRBURNS.

(Own Correspondent) Mr. H. Parker returned last Clansman after spending three weeks in the Queen City. Whilst there he made a special trip to Hamilton to see his brother, the Rev. W. Parker, who has been an inmate of the Hospital there for many weeks. I am pleased to learn that the latter is now well on the way to recovery. It is quite possible before resuming his ministerial duties at Putaruru a visit will be made by him to his parents, so well known in Kaitaia. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Gibbings, with their family, returned from Auckland last week after spending a most enjoyable holiday with Mrs. Gibbings’ parents at New Lynn. A short stay was also made with her sister at Pakuranga. Mr. Gibbings was delighted at the quality of the land seen in the latter district. Miss Sadie Coulter returned home from Totara, whilst her sister Phyllis is making

a short stay with Mrs. Geo. May, at Taipa. Mrs. H. A. Morey lett here for Whangarei last week, and is combining business with pleasure. Through the heavy and bad state of the road in this district, a motor lorry, laden with stores and material for the stranded scow “ Haere,” got stuck here on Thursday evening last. After many attempts to extricate it had failed, the driver had to settle down and remain there for the night. Another lorry came from Kaitaia the following morning to render assistance, both leaving here about ten. A fine turn-out, in the way of horse, gig and harness, arrived in Kaiaka on Sunday. The master of the Fairburns School, Mr. H. Skiffington, being the owner, we compliment him on his good taste.

Since my last notes I regret to record the death of Mr. William Harris, his burial taking place in Victoria Valley on Tuesday last. Mr. Harris was a bachelor, and was born in Cornwall, arriving here some forty-five years ago. He followed the trade of bootmaker, and was very widely known and respected throughout the county, We offer our condolences to all the bereaved.
