lOwn Correspondent). I regret to report the death of Elsie, the three and a half year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Buckingham. This little one was only ailing about a whek from a septic throat, and with other complications setting in, this proved more than the little sufferer could stand. Her remains were interred in the Fairburn Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, when a large number of settlers attended the funeral, the Rev. C. G. H. Bycroft officiating at the graveside. The sympathy of all is extended to the parents, who, in addition to losing their little one, have their two infant children at the present time in the Mangonui Hospital, apparently suffering from the same complaint. Mr. H. D, Foster, a popular resident of Otukai, has just purchased the well-known farm originally owned by Mr. R. May. It is Mr. Foster’s intention, with his family, to take up his residence here almost immediately. We congratulate him on his foresight in securing such a compact little farm. Mr. W. H. Coulter, surveyor, of W ellington, paid a short visit to his mother during the Xmas holidays. Mr. Coulter was responsible for taking the survey of our Cemetery and handing over a working plan, for which he received the thanks of the trustees and settlers alike. Miss Hazel Switzer, of Raupo School, is at present spending her annual leave with her parents at Mangatoitoi. The Fairburn-Kaiaka Hall trustees met on Saturday last, Mr. H. A. Morey presiding. During the evening the secretary, Mr. J. W. Hoskin, reported having received the necessary debentures. These will in due course be placed in the hands of all subscribers.
