FARMERS’ AND FARMERS’ UNION COLUMN.
THE FARMER. ACITY VIEW. The N. Z. Times in Wellington recently contained a leading article upon the farmers’ deputation to the Prime Minister. “How charming is the naivete of the New Zealand farmer —in the mass. Individually, our friend behaves always like what he is—the backbone of the country. But collectively he is another story. When misfortune touches him—a rare occurrence, however hard the present instance may hit him —and he discusses tilings in common, his cries fill the air, his words shriek out all the secrets of his heart, his breath stains everything the dullest blue. His lamentations suggest the agonies of death by slow fire; his imprecations are reckless enough for the last week of creation, when everything prudential has gone by the board.”
