Mr Clement Wraggc, F.R.G.S., will be visiting Kaitaia shortly when he will deliver his new and masterpiece lecture intitlcd “The War in the light of the Eternal Universe.” We would draw the attention of our readers to the clearance sale at Mr George Colville’s Kohumaru, appearing in the Farmer’s Co-op,, advertismcnt on page io. The method of appointing the members of the Trustee Boards was sharply criticised at a meeting of the County Council held at Opotiki. The opinion was expressed that the council should have been consulted, and it was resolved to inform the Minister in Charge that it wasjhe opinion of the Council that the Trustee Boards should have been elected. The Public Works Department estimates the damage caused in Hokianga county by the last floods at £4,140. The council is offered a free grant of £9O for the Makura Bridge, and £ for £ subsidy of £2,925, The Council considc.ied the Department’s estimates rediculously below actual requirements, and resolved to accept the subsidy and raise a loan of £4,000. The County Clerk and County Engineer tendered their resignations, which were accepted. The Kohukohu Town Board has decided to appeal to the Government for a straight-out grant of £3OO to repair the damage done by the recent floods in the township area. The Government is acquiring the new English wool clip at pricesabove the rates ruling in July, 1914, of 86,900 bales catalogued at the current sales, the Government withdrew 23,000, while 55,000 were sold to the Home Market, 2,000 to the 1 Continent and 5,000 to the United States. The entry of the United States into the war is likely to cause a large demand, either in Australia or Lnndon. Best combing merinos advanced yesterday, and others made full rates. Best scoureds further advanced. Lamb's wool sold often above February rates, the smallness of America’s purchases apparently was due to the fact that prices were too high and because direct Australian shipments arc permitted—(A. and N.Z Cable.)

Regulations, are gazetted relating to the appointment of Soldiers, Property Boards of Trustees, bodies which arc being set up under the national efficiency scheme. The Minister of Defence is empowed to appoint any number of these Boards to manage the affairs of members of the Expeditionary Force. Every Board must consist of four members, one of whom is to be a member of the National Efficiency Board but this member of the central may appoint as his proxy another member of the Board ot Trustees, who shall be Approved by the Minister. No Board may take control of the affairs of any soldier without a written power of attorney executed by the soldier, but the Board may act on a power of attorney executed by a minor. The regulations define in some detail the powers of the Boards, which appear to be those ordinarily exercised by trustees.
