ORURU CONCERT
A MOST successful concert was held in the Oruru Hall on Friday night last. The concert was in aid of the funds of the Methodist Church in this County. The promoters of the concert were anxious to give everyone their money’s worth, and were very successful in doing so. Every item was good and that most of them were more than good was shown by the hearty way in which the audience insisted on encoring them. Mrs Berry had trained three young ladies in the “Three Little Maids from School” from the Mikado and also in the very amusing trio “A Bird in Hand” or “Three Old Maids of Lee.” The three pretty Japanese ladies were very well received, and had to respond to an encore. This was a very pretty trio in every way. In the second one, when the three young maids turned round and showed the audience what havoc time can work in the prettiest faces, the audience was simply convulsed with merriment, and nothing could be heard for some time but shrieks of laughter. The singers had to return and after that were recalled again. Mrs Berry’s song “There’s a Long, Long Trail,” has a very sweet, haunting tunc, and she also responded to an encore. The P.P.C.C. Club from Mangonui were well received in their three quartettes, and were recalled in both “The Catastrophe,” and “Prophundo Basso,” the latter especially causing much merriment. Mr Bert Green’s item “Cathedral Chimes” was much liked, Bfc and the player was recalled giving “Melosecond time. 11111
