LOCAL PREACHER’S PULPIT NAP.

It is not often that a local preacher is caught napping, but in the "Local Preachers' Magazine ” for April, Mr. S. B. Wilcock tells a good story of one such episode. It was summer time, and a certain acceptable preacher, called "J. 8.,” was planned to preach at two p.m., in a village five miles distant from his home. As the day was sultry, Mr. B. started from home in good time. He reached the place half an hour before time, and, finding no one there, climbed to the high pulpit, a'nd sat down to rest. Presently slumber stole over him, and for a time unconsciousness reigned. Awaking at last he sat up cautiously, feeling ashamed of his lapse. He looked round for his congregation, but there was none ! He took out his watch, and found that he must have slept two hours. The people had come and gone away, thinking that the preacher had neglected his appointment. Needless to say, Mr. B. slunk home by a footpath as quietly as he could.
