The Sculling Championship.

Dr. Thacker, who is one of Eichard Arnst’s supporters, will be present at the big contest on the Zambesi this year. He told a reporter yesterday that Arust, just before leaving Christchurch to go on board the Moeraki on his way to Australia, stated that he was looking forward to the best trip of his life, and was in high spirits at the prospects before him. Arnst will leave Australia in the Medic in May, and will go to Capetown. From there he wil take train to Bulawayo, which is the centre of Bport in that part of South Africa. He will then continue his journey to Livingstone, which is on the Zambesi, at the Zambesi Falls. There he will probably go into camp with Floyd, who will be his trainer, supervisor and manager. Arnst’s other supporters (Mr. J. A. Parker, Mr. E. H. Ehodes, M.P., and Mr. J. F. Buchanan) have as much confidence in Floyd’s fitness for the position as Hr. Thacker. Jack Arnst will be the champion’s pacemaker and assistanttrainer.

Hr. Thacker has made many enquiries in regard to the course on which the race will be rowed. Livingstone, he says, is about 3000 ft. or 4000 ft. above the sea level, and has a pleasant climate. There are no crocodiles in the part of the river which- will be used for the race, so that, even if the New Zealander experiences a few capsizes, he is not likely to make food for these reptiles. There is very little fever in the district, and the atmosphere is dry and healthy. In any case Arnst will be under medical supervision all the time, and all kinds of precautions will be taken to preserve him from mosquitoes and other dangers that may lessen bis chances of winning against Barry.
