Extraordinary Shooting Records.
In these days, when so much is heard of the necessity of good shooting in connection with Defence, the work of the Woodville High School Cadets is wonderfully encouraging. On the 10th De** cember they again won the “ Weekly Press ” Challenge Shield. Their marksmanship was remarkable. One boy, Lieutenant Hind, made possibles at each range, and continued shooting at 100 yards until he had scored thirty-three successive bulls. At 200 yards Bugler Rapley scored a possible, and went on firing until he had registered twenty successive hulls. The aggregate of the whole team was thirty-three ahead of that of 1908, and constitutes a record. The team keeps the shield and thoroughly well deserves it. Of course, however good the marksmanship, much must depend on the quality of the ammunition. The Woodville Cadets were especially well equipped in that regard. They fired .310 cartridges, made by the Colonial Ammunition Co., Ltd., throughout. As the fame of these cartridges is now established beyond all cavil in New Zealand, it cannot be pretended that the Woodville hoys took any unfair advantage; but there can be no doubt that the quality of the ammunition used contributed to the excellent result. The scores will be more conclusive, as to the absolute superiority of the competing teams, when the use of “ C.A.C.” cartridges is entirely general. Meantime, the Woodvill^a^
