WAIMATE NORTH.
11 (From our own Correspondent.) LS The Bay of Islands Co-operative Dairy , Company is putting up a record this I season, both in regard to output and the t“ price obtained for its butter. I am in--18 formed that over £IOOO was paid out by ™ this Company for butter fat supplied in 8t November and that that amount will not rS nearly cover the cheques required to pay l £ for December supplies. What a contrast * 8 this is to, say, twelve years ago’when the ■? total value of tbe butter exported did “J not amount to £IOO for a year. Dairying lc f is a monotonous gam.e but there is cash ? attached to it if it is worked aright. \ For several weeks, under a most sunny sky, hay-making and harvesting have i been going on apace. . Flax millers are making a movtf again, •® the slight rise in the price of fibre proving * e sufficient inducement for the trial of a • season’s work. • Mr. Hallidav’s fiax mill at Oromahoe. is now in full swing and with a good i quantity of green flax available it should do fairly well. ' The many friends of Mr. and Mrs; 10 Cecil Kemp will be sorry to learn that they are shortly to leave Keri Keri. Mr. II Kemp has been manager of Mr. T. C. 18 Williams’s Keri Keri station since the 10 property wan purchased by Mr. Williams l ~ fifteen years ago and the sale of the staL tion is the cause of the departure from among us. Mr. Kemp is a J.P. and in ie this neighbourhood he has proven himself a satisfactory one. Latterly he was ■d elected to represent the Waimate Riding d on the Bay of Islands County Council y and he has filled this honorary public h position with marked ability. ’ e The property known as Victoria, for--16 raerly owned by Mr. Busby and pury chased by Mr. E. G. Hewin some years ago, recently changed owners and Mr. Fagan, the newcomer, appears to bo d quite up-to-date. I am informed that ;0 be has had a portion—just inside the 18 Waitangi, opposite the Ti point—laid out in small allotments suitable for building R sites. All these sites on the front are, I s ’ understand, disposed of and in order to push the sale of the remainder Mr. Fagan ff is going to charter the Clansman and give a free trip from town to intending *y buyers. In all probability this move will jfc prove successful, for the large boarding b- house recently erected at Russell (con--38 taining forty rooniB) is already full to d overflowing.
