SUPERIOR BRAINS FOR CHILDREN.

NOVEL TESTS. The plant life of the Arctic Circle end the plant life of the tropics 'idler greatly. The principal cause of this variation is the (li(Terence in t!w» *tnount of heat. A potato plant ;io«D' in the sunlight and a potato plant grown in the dark of a vegetable cellar differ greatly in strucUrre. vitality, productiveness, size, and colour These differences result mainly from differences in the amount of colour surrounding the growing plants. Sunshine is composed of the seven colours ol the spectrum. How may wc apply these facts to children ? The Salvation Army without music the evangelist without his song service, the cathedral without its grand organ cannot influence the listening masses as they are able to do with music as an aid. Colours, tones, temperature and electrical influences cause great changes in the structure, form und functioning of all types of life—cell life forms, plants, animals and even human beUf*. . No matter what our theory regarding mind and matter, it is absolutely essential for mind to use brain centres for the purpose of manifestation. Mind may exist without brain, but brain is necessary for expressron. Even in telepathy, one brain centre is the receiving instrument. Take the brain from a skull and All it with sawdust, and every iota of mind, intelligence or emotion ceases to express or manifest. Your brain does not mako your mind any more than the dynamo makes electricity. Vhen the dynamo runs properly electricity is collected by the dynamo and radiated along the wires running from it. Brain centres are the dynamos of the body, nerves are the conducting wires, and the organic tissues are the mechanisms that do the work. Mind manifests first through the brain, second, along the nerves, and third, by tissue lunctioning One brain centre normally functioning allows certain mind intelligence or power to manifest , two brain centres normally functioning make it possible for more mind intelligence and power to manifest ; a thousand functioning centres equally normal mean power increased a thousand fold. The more brain centres aroused the greater the mental awakening ; the greater the awakening the greater consciousness and power. Brain centres are aroused to activity set in motion, by impressions received through the twelve special senses The colour centre is awakened by perceiving colours, not by reading about them or learning their ! names , the tone consciousness is dc- ; veloped qy listening to tones, n-ot by teing lectured to about harmony . the odour centre is aroused to activity by perceiving odours ; the taste centre by distinguishing j tastes ; motion, direction, equilibrium, heat, cold, pressure, tactile, and weight centres are each respectively awakened through response to outside stimuli. The more awakened brain centres, the greater the consciousness ; the greater the consciousness, the more wind, the more intelligence, the more power. At least 98 per cent, of our brain functioning is subconscious ( o’our, sound, electrical conditions. I' at and cold, all tend to awaken the subconscious brain centres. Though the action is usually unconscious, the effect is no less vital and important. The first experiments of some research work just conducted by Dr. Leon Landonc. as to the influence of colours, tones, heat and electricity were made with different groups of cells all. at the beginning of each test, of the same culture. Thousands upon thousands of cells of the same culture were divided and e.,ual quantities put into glass boxes All bo v es were of the same size, filled with an equal quantity of distilled water and kept at the same temperature One box was kept in darkness, another in sunlight, another was surrounded—top. sides and bottom —with green light, another | with red light, another with blue : light, another with yellow, and another with violet, each coloured light j being of equal candle power. To the j cells in each glass box was given an ; equal quantity of food of the same kind twice daily. The cells living in the sunlight were taken as the standard normal cella. Under normal conditions they lived about thirty hours. The experiment was continued for ten days About eight generations were bom and died Observations of this expei :nent indicate YELLOW ENCOURAGES AMIABILITY : RED EXCITES IRRITABILITY. (1! That cells living continuously i in red or violet light, generation j after generation. for ten days, developed cells larger than those of any other group The nuclei of these cell** we e. in rclat-on to »he size of the cell lardy, < o nparatively smaller. This is s gni( rant when one understands that the ncclcus is in reality the brain of the cell. These cells become short lived and manifested hunger by greater activity for food Reproduction here was greatest. (2) That cells living in green light developed the longest lived cells, the most quiet motor activity, apparently the best preserved bodies. and a lessened demand lor food. (3) That cells living in blue light were normally inactive . the quantity 1 of cells had slightly decreased. (4) That cells living under the influence of yellow light showed little distinctive change from the normal type (5) That those kept in the dark j reproduced cells having the smallest bodies, the smallest nuclei and less activity than those or any other group—also the smallest quantity of cells. The second phase of these experiments was carried on With kittens, puppies, chickens and canary birds. Fifty animals of each kind were used. The kittens were divided into seven 1 groups, the puppies into seven j groups, as were also the chickens and birds Each group of each type lived under different colours for twelve hours each day, and remained in absolute darkness during the remaining twelve hours All were fed the same kind and quantity of food, were given the same quantity of water at the same temperature . were furnished

with the same amount of fresh air per hour at exactly the same temperature. Birds, chickens, kittens, and dogs living in red light for twenty-one days become irritable, easily excited, angry and ravenously hungry, immediately devouring every particle of food as soon as it was given them. Each animal of these groups increased more in weight than any other animal of their own kiod living under any other colour All animals living in the yellow light were especially amiable. The puppies and lhttens became most affectionate. Those living under blue light became quiet of body, but seemingly alert in mind activity. This was specially true to the puppies. They often assumed intense listening attitudes, followed by quiet, quick, and decisive action when action seemed needed. Puppies and kittens living in the dark came to dislike those who fed them. Darkness did not appear to affect the kittens until a bout the tenth day. Green had the seeming effect of keeping up the strength and vitality of the animals. Never were kittens or puppies found asleep while the green lights were on—great increase of activity, with decreased demand for food. The chicks were especially active, and the birds seemed to sing continuously.—“ Science Siftings."
