Accident at Lake Ohia.
About noon on Monday an Austrian named Gribevich, resident at Lake Ohia, met with a serious aocident. He had been engaged repairing the roof of his house and on finishing the work jumped therefrom in such manner that he ruptured himself severely. The man was brought into Mangonui by McKay’s launch on Tuesday morning at 4 a.m. and admitted to the Mangonui hospital by Dr. Reid at 1.0 a.m. Dr. Reid, being of opinion that an operation on Gribevich would be necessary, wired to Dr. Wheeler, of Kaeo, to come over for a consultation and to act as anaesthetist if required. Dr. Wheeler arrived in Mangonui on Tuesday afternoon and on Tuesday morning about 10 o’clock an operation was successfully performed by Dr. Reid. At time of writing Gribevich is reported to be making a good recovery and if he progresses as favorably as is expected he will be discharged from hospital in about three weeks’ time.
