FRENCH SHOWMAN OFFERS TO SUPPLY ANY NUMBER. An Englishwoman who confesses to a mild mania for attending the street fftirs common in and around Paiis says that she is always impressed by the extraordinary number ot oearded ladies among the attractions. " l was inclined to think that they were takes," she says i D the ‘"Gentlewoman, "but when I discovered that they were quite genuine my surprise at this wonderful supply of phenomena grew stronger. And when a few <iays ago l saw the fair in the Avenue d’Orleans a iady exhibited with a long Mowing heard i could n o longer withhold my curiosity. l applied for information to a gentleman well known in the showman world, and who acts as a kind of agent to the people owning shows, supplying them with the
necessary goods, human and otherwise. I his gentleman appeared Surprised at my question. ‘Bearded- ladies !' ne exclaimed, l can find «*s many as J like. you have no idea how many women, n they liked, could rival men as regards whiskers and moustaches. But. they are not anxious to enter into that kind of competition.'
