THE GOLDEN BAG.

An old man named George Keymer has been found dead at his bedside in a little cottage at Wernstead-road, Ipswich. Deceased, who was formerly a gold miner in Australia, lived alone. His house contained only a bed, and a few boxes, and he did everything for himself, even his own washing. He was reputed to have had a considerable sum of money when lying ill, and inquiries were made. All he could say was, bag—carpet bag." A vigorous search was made, and a sum in gold and notes, together with a deposit note at the bank, totalling over £1,400, was found in a carpet bag. This money was taken possession of by a clergyman and deposited in the bank. Deceased, who was 80 years of age, seems to have had a miserable existence for some time, and is reported to have been in perpetual dread of being poisoned.
