Speaking at the luncheon in connection with the commemoration of the jubilee of the Liphfield Theological College the Archbishop of Canterbury referred to his “ungainly habiliments," and said he thought they were the most uncomfortable and unaccqmodating of all human vestures. Dr. Davidson went on to say that many people are unaware of the real significance of clerical vestments, and in this connection his Grace related an amusing story against himself. During his recent tour through America, he said, hto one day picked up a newspaper and glanced through an account of a sermon he had preached a few days before. It was an adequate report, but the writer concluded the matter with, the words, “The Archbishop wore" Highland dress.”
