We had the pleasure of a chat with the Member for the Bay of Islands on his return from Wellington, and were delighted at the improvement in his health. The gentleman would not, necessarily, give us any indication as to his intentions with regard to the next General Election, but he had no hesitation in saying that lie thought the Ward Ministry had deliberately neglected the. Curiously enpugh qny recommendation from the Roads Department was given effect to and grants asked for by the Dept, were fully supplied.

The Bank of New Zealand half yearly leport is fairly favorable, indicating tightness of money, bad prices for wool, flax, etc., as having been more or less foreseen, and good management. However, if any of our readers “ would like to know ” something particular that is exactly what “ we should like to know.”

We regret that our “ Grumpy Critic’s” writing, when sending in his report of the Mangonui Hospital Ball, was so bad that the Comp, misprinted Miss Webb’s costume (Flower Girl) and it was attributed to a Miss Wells. Miss Webb was one of the three flower girls whom our G.C. was flirting in the Moonlight with and we thank heaven that we have not once more to tell the usual lie and blame the descriptive error ou to the printer’s devil instead of on to the man who is always in error—the reporter.
