(From our own Correspondent.) On Saturday, May 4th, the third of a series of concerts in aid of a fund to pay off the piano was held in the Totara Public Hall. Mr. W. H. Saies aoted as chairman. The concert began pretty early, because it was iutended that there should be a dance from the closing time till 12 midnight. There was a fairly good attendance considering the rather showery weather experienced during the day. The programme was as follows: Part 1. 1. Song, “ Jessie Dear,” Mr. George Andrews. 2. Song, “The Boy in the Sailor Cap,” Mr. K. Gribble. 3. Coon song, Mr. Woodnutt. 4. Song, “ Would You Care,” Mr. B. Andrews. 3. Duet, “A, B, C, ” Mrs. Gribble and Mr. T. Bead. 6. Song, “ Starlight,” Mrs. Willetts. 7. Comic song, “ How Sad,” Mr. J. James. 8. Song, “ The Boy in Blue,” Mr, J. Gribble. Comic song, “ Shift up a little bit Further,” Mr. E. Campbell. Part 2. 1. Song, “ Bosebud,” Mr. George Andrews. . 2. Coon song, Mr. Woodnntt. 3. Becitatiou, Mr. J. Gribble, sen. 4. Comic song, “ Some Time—Bye-and-Bye,” Mr. James. 5. Song, “Harvest Moon,” Mr. E. Andrews. 6. Song and chorus, Mrs. Gribble and family. The newly-repaired barquenting Pelotas is to sail this week for Whangarei, where she will load timber for Sydney. The scow Southern Isle is loading timher here. The election of a school committee did not occasion much exeitement. Those elected were Messrs. Bannister, J. Saies, W. H. Saies, T. Fleming, W. Moselen, W. B. Lawrence and J. Kelly. The head teacher, Mr. T.i Bead, wrote urging the committee to use both precept and example to aid the attendance. The examination report recorded tbs work of last examination as “ Good.” The school garden looks nice and green with potatoes, o»U. turnips, etc.
